OOM - distraction Sherral

After a long shower and some serious sleep, Jay finds his way to room f(x,y). "I come bearing beer." Jay calls, knocking on Sherral's door. Barefoot and relaxed, he looks a hell of a lot better than he did last time Sherral saw him.

Sherral is used to getting up before dawn, so - while he permits himself a little bit of a lie in - the dawn hasn't long started by the time he eases himself out of bed (taking as much care as he can not to wake Jay, although he doesn't know how successful he'll be).

There's a brief check around the kitchen to check on what he has in his cupboards - Sherral's no chef, but he can make waffles, so he's relieved enough to find he has flour, eggs, milk, butter and sugar - before he settles at the desk, takes a moment to reorganise his maps, and starts plotting routes.

When Jay wakes up, he'll stop, but in the meantime he may as well get some work done.

Jay sleeps in a bit, happily worn out. He opens his eyes and watches Sherral for a while. "Every the commander." He teases lightly, stretching slowly.

"Er, aye, well. I didn't want to wake you," Sherral says, a little sheepishly, putting the maps aside and wandering over to the bed, sitting down and pressing a quick kiss to Jay's shoulder.

Jay smiles and pulls Sherral into a slow kiss. "I don't think I've slept that well in a long time. Thanks for letting me stay."

Sherral kisses back, cupping Jay's cheek.

"It was, er, no problem. Stay any time you like."

Jay laughs and sits up slowly. "You should be careful who you make those kinds of offers to. You might end up with a grubby mechanic in your bed more often than not."

Cheerfully: "I would be amenable to this."

He pauses, pulling himself up into a standing position again. "I'm going to make us breakfast. Bar appears to have supplied me with a grill specifically for the purpose of making waffles, which seems a - rather narrow purpose, but useful today."

Jay chuckles but is quietly thoughtful. Part of him feels like he should point out he's not really good boyfriend material, or ask Sherral how serious he wants to make this but for now, waffles win out. "Clearly she's trying to tell you something. Want me to dash downstairs and grab us coffee and some fresh strawberries to go with them?"

"Er, aye, that actually does sound like a fairly good plan," Sherral grins. "I'll have tea, though. Not a big coffee drinker."

"No worries." He steals another kiss before finding his clothes and slips off to the bar.

When he comes back, Sherral has pulled on a pair of grey wool trousers, and is staring at the waffle machine with deep, intense, concentration.

Jay comes back looking slightly cleaner and in fresh clothes, balancing several trays. "Tea, coffee, strawberries, cream and something I think is chocolate sauce." Jay grins. "I think the bar's trying to tell us something. Are you winning the battle with the waffle iron?"

"Er, aye," Sherral says, and then because that looks like a lot of trays to balance, strides over to take one from Jay. "What would the Bar be trying to tell us?"

Jay grins and lets Sherral take the tray. "If there's cream and chocolate left over after breakfast, I promise I'll show you."

Sherral nods, a little uncertainly, carrying the tray to the kitchen.

"Tell me if I'm pushing my luck." Jay asks softy. "I know I can be a tease but I don't want to make you uncomfortable."

Sherral laughs a little. "No, no, you're not. Don't worry."

"You're hard to read, Sherral." Jay muses, sipping his coffee. "You blush like a first timer and yet you laid me out like a pro."

Sherral ducks his head, smiling slightly and pouring some tea for himself.

"I'm awkward, what can I say."

[runningred]

"Don't get me wrong, I think it's gorgeous. I just worry I'm going to push too far and you'll toss me out on my ass."

"You don't seem like someone with boundary problems," Sherral says. "I have plenty of confidence that if you push me too far, I can just tell you."

"Glad to hear it." Jay grins, leaning over Sherral's shoulder to see how the waffles are coming.

The first batch are pretty much ready, so Sherral flips them onto a plate and turns his head slightly to give Jay a quick peck on the corner of his mouth.

"Here's yours."

Jay smiles and returns the kiss, doctoring his plate with strawberries before taking a big bite. "Mmm! Thanks. Waffles were the one thing my grandfather could never get right but these are damn good!"

"The ... waffle machine," Sherral squints at it, "did most of the work."
